Osaka City Office in Paris occupied by No Vox
Monday 12 February 2007
On 12 February some 30 members of Novox Network and associations who signed the appeal for support of 2 February occupeid Osaka city office at Paris to support the claim of evicted homeless people of Ngai Park.
Osaka City evicted homeless people of Nagai Park by 200 city stuffs and 300 guards and a group of riot squad on the 5th February. Evicted homeless peoples are still asking to open a negociation with the Osaka City.
At Osaka City, about 5000 people are homeless, 700 of them live in tent piched in public parks more than 10 years. Nagai Park is one of these parks. The majority of them are vulnerable workers. Some of them are living on collecting wasted cartons and aluminum cans.
On 12 February some 30 members of Novox Network and associations who signed the appeal for support of 2 February occupeid Osaka city office at Paris to support the claim of evicted homeless people of Ngai Park. On our arrival, the office accepted to hear our claim. But after their communication by telephone with Osaka city, the dialogue was interrupted and a team of riot police arrived. The office rejected not only to fax our letter of claim to the Mayor in our presence but also to fix an appointment to receive the answer. After 3 hours of occupation, 5 vans of riot police arrived and we were evicted by the 50 policeman.
On 5th February, in Brasil, solidarity action was taken in front of the Japanese Embassy, in France, the same day, No-vox delegation who visited the Japanese Embassy to hand over the petition in solidarity with homeless people of Nagai Park was rejected. On the 12 February, NOVOX delegation was refused by Osaka City. This attitude of the Japanese government and Osaka City, with no respect to civil society, is an insult against the international solidarity expressed by associations and trade unions in solidarity with homeless people of Nagai Park in Osaka.
We affirm again our solidarity and support for homeless people of Nagai Park in Osaka. In spite of their ask for a negociation, they have been evicted. We support the claim of the homeless people evicted from Nagai Park and ask City of Osaka : 1. Opning negociation with the concerned homeless people 2. Respect for the homless people and their claim 3. No more eviction of homeless people from the park
We are deceided to take our solidarity action with homeless people in Osaka and we’ll call for another action in a few days until homeless people can get a real solution from Osaka City.
